This is a list pertaining to the different input commands in the Devil May Cry series, using the default controls. In Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, and Devil May Cry 5, you can completely customize the controls. This can range from something as simple as changing melee attacks fromB t toB s, to something more extreme, like setting guns toB r2, or evenB r.

Devil May CryEdit

DanteEdit

Action Command Description
Move B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick Move Dante. Tilt the Analog Stick halfway to walk, or fully to run.
Jump B t Jump straight up: hold the analog stick to jump in a direction. Tap for a small hop, or hold slightly longer for a high jump. At certain points in the game Dante will perform an automatic long-jump.
Kick Jump/ Enemy Step B t (near wall/enemy) Double jump off walls/enemies.
Roll B r1+B l/B r+B t Roll to the side to avoid attacks.
Backflip B r1+B d+B t Flip backwards to avoid attacks.
Air Hike B t (mid-air) Double jump. Must be purchased, Alastor and Yamato only. Available for free with Sparda during phase 2 of the battle with Mundus.
Camera Right Analog Stick Alter the angle of the camera. (Not always available.)
Melee attack B c Attack with equipped Devil Arm. See Force Edge, Ifrit and Alastor for specific weapon combos.
Check B s orB x Examine objects, pick up items, or confirm an on-screen option.
Shoot B r1 +B s orB x Attack with the selected gun.B r1 does not need to be pressed if Dante is in the air.
Charged Shot B r1 +B s orB x (hold until Dante's hands glow) With Ebony & Ivory, Shotgun and Grenadegun, imbue Dante's gun with demonic power, allowing for a short period of firing Devil Trigger shots for no DT gauge cost. With Nightmare-β, depletes the DT gauge to increase the number of projectiles fired.
Devil Trigger B l1 Toggle Devil Trigger mode on and off, or stop/start time with the Bangle of Time equipped. Not available with Force Edge and only available with Sparda in phase 2 of the battle with Mundus.
Map B l2 Open the sub menu on the Map tab.
Lock on B r1 Locks on to the nearest enemy. Control which enemy is targeted by pressing the Left Analog Stick in the direction of the desired target before pressingB r1.
Taunt B r2 Taunt the enemy. Hold to perform a two-handed taunt.
Change weapon R3 Toggle between Ifrit and Alastor without going to the menu. Can only be used if one of these weapons is equipped and while not in Devil Trigger.
Display sub screen B start Opens the sub menu on the Item tab.
Pause B select Opens the pause menu.
Underwater Controls Command Description
Swim B t Move in the direction the camera is facing. Hold to swim continuously.
Change directions B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick Controls the camera and thus what direction Dante will swim in. The left analog stick is vertically inverted, while the D-pad is not.
Quick turn B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick +B c Performs a fast camera-turn in the direction the D-pad or left analog stick is pressed.
Check B s/B x Examine objects or pick up items.
Aim mode B r1 +B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick HoldB r1 to enter aiming mode: in this mode, pressing up causes Dante to swim forward slowly, left or right causes him to strafe in that direction, and down causes him to swim backwards. UseB t in combination to swim faster.
Shoot B r1 +B s/B x Fire the Needlegun. Only available after Dante acquires it.
Mundus Phase 1 controls Command Description
Move B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick Move Dante freely around the screen. Analog stick is vertically inverted, D-pad is not.
Shoot B s/B x Launch rapid-fire projectiles. Unlike elsewhere in the game, does not require the use ofB r1.
Speed B t Hold to increase the speed at which Dante moves around the screen. Also appears to increase the speed at which he closes range with Mundus.
Vortex B c Performs a spinning melee attack. Also counts as an evasive move.
Devil Trigger B l1 Dante unleashes a mighty demonic dragon, expending the entire DT gauge. The strength of the attack depends on the number of lit runes in the DT gauge.
Options Menu Command Description
Highlight B u/B d/B l/B r or Left Analog Stick Move the highlighter.
Select B x orB s Confirm selection.
Cancel B t Cancel selection.
Turn Page B l1 orB r1 Change menu pages.

In the HD Collection, Attack is replaced by the top face button, Jump is replaced with the bottom face button, and check/shoot is replaced by the right and left face buttons.

Upgrades must also be purchased.

It is an action, which is performed by using dashing or rushing moves off a ledge. This will propel the player forward over a large distance.
