Alan Lowell is an ancient character mentioned in Devil May Cry: The Animated Series.
Biography[]
Long ago, Alan Lowell was a powerful alchemist and sorcerer who had the power to summon demons he had "employed." However, there was one demon he could not bend to his will: Abigail. Fearing for anyone attempting to use his power, he sealed away Abigail's power.[1]

According to Lady, Alan could "employ" demons, though it is not explained how exactly.
