The untitled Devil May Cry animated series is an upcoming project by Adi Shankar, announced in 2018 and started production in 2022.
Development[]
On November 16, 2018, IGN reported that a new Devil May Cry animated series was in the works by Adi Shankar, the producer of the Netflix Castlevania series, and his team. In an exclusive interview, Shankar announced that he acquired the rights to the Devil May Cry adaptation so that the "jabronis in Hollywood can’t fuck this one up too", and that Devil May Cry will join Castlevania in what they’re now calling "The Bootleg Multiverse."[1]
In Fall 2021, Shankar revealed that the series is written by Alex Larsen who worked on Yasuke and the upcoming Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix animated series, all of the first season scripts are done, and the production should start at the beginning of 2022.[2] First season will include eight episodes, with a "multi-season arc" being planned. Dante, Vergil, and Lady are to make appearance. From Capcom's side the production is supervised by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer of DMC1 and 4, who performed the same duties on the 2007 Japanese animated series as well as on multiple other projects based on Capcom IPs.[3]
On September 27, 2023, Netflix unveiled the announcement trailer for Devil May Cry, a new animated adaptation of the popular Capcom hack and slash action series, at its Drop 01 animation showcase on Wednesday.[4]
