Deadly Fortune covers

The two covers of the novels

The Devil May Cry 4: Deadly Fortune is a two-volume graphic novel written by Morihashi Bingo, the scenario designer for Devil May Cry 3 and Devil May Cry 4, and his for-novel-only assistant Yasui Kentarou. It is written in Japanese, and has not yet been released in any other language.

Story

The novel expands on the story of Devil May Cry 4, including events that happened before the game and some unexplained and deleted scenes that didn't make it to the final release. However, the author, Morihashi Bingo, considers this novel to be the "complete" version of the Devil May Cry 4's story. The novel shows that the Blue Rose and the Red Queen melted inside The Savior and Nero fought Sanctus with only the Yamato, details more how Nero obtained his Devil Bringer as well as more information about Nero's past.

Controversy

Although the novel was written by the scenario designer of Devil May Cry 4, the status of the story as canon or non-canon has yet to be determined. Morihashi Bingo had left Capcom to work as a free-lancer, and it was then that he worked on and published the novel. Some fans consider this story to be a work of fan fiction, albeit by someone who actually worked on the game, while others believe that Bingo's involvement with Devil May Cry 4 make the novel canon.[1]
