Mission[]

This mission is the game's first "boss-only" level. The only thing you must do to beat it is to slay Gilgamesh. There are several Devil Breakers strewn across the arena to help Nero do this.

Boss: Gilgamesh[]

Gilgamesh is a massive metallic quadruped. Its body is almost completely invulnerable to all attacks, except for a weak point in its back. Nero cannot reach it on his own, but fortunately, Gilgamesh has several bulbs in its legs that can be broken, revealing a Grim Grip spot he can use to get on top of it. After Nero hits its weak point long enough, Gilgamesh will hide the weak point within its spine. Each leg weak point will be consumed when Nero reaches Gilgamesh's back and damages its weak point, so he must look for another.

It's possible to stay on Gilgamesh's back through the entirety of the fight once Nero makes his way up there by utilizing Nero's aerial movement abilities. Using a combination of Air Hike, Gerbera, and Air Taunt, Nero is able to avoid the various hazards that will attempt to throw him off or encourage him to return to the ground and climb back up. Wire Snatch can then be used to quickly return to the weak point once it's safe to do so.

Once Gilgamesh is near death it will collapse on the floor, leaving it as easy prey for Nero to finish it off as it will be stunned for an extended period of time. Alternatively there are 5 specific points around the map when V, who is running around beneath the arena, will cause one of Gilgamesh's legs to fall through the floor and bring him crashing to the ground. This also counts as a stun and can be used as an opportunity to get in a lot of damage. Gilgamesh is vulnerable to Busters once it's down and a single one used when the boss is at low health can be enough to finish it off in Human or Devil Hunter modes.

Attacks[]

Note that while it's not technically an 'attack', Nero can be injured if any of Gilgamesh's legs run into him while the boss is walking around the arena.

  • Trample: Gilgamesh stomps the ground with either his front or back legs depending on where Nero is standing. This attack only triggers if Nero is standing too close to any of the legs and is easy to avoid via jumping out of the way or quickly moving to Gilgamesh's other end when you see his legs begin to raise.
  • Body Press: Gilgamesh will drop his entire body on top of Nero. Usually only triggers if Nero is standing directly under Gilgamesh's midsection for longer than a couple of seconds.
  • Laser Bullets: A series of laser bullets will be fired repeatedly from a small tentacle on Gilgamesh's back. The only time this attack is not able to be used is when Nero is on the ground beneath Gilgamesh's body or when Gilgamesh is stunned. On SoS and higher difficulties more bullets will be fired at a time.
  • Missiles: A series of missiles will be launched at Nero. This can be triggered by spending too much time further than 50m from the boss or by spending an extended period of time on or near Gilgamesh's back. On SoS or higher, the number of missiles fired at once will increase.
  • Thorns: Gilgamesh's back will begin to ripple around Nero as a warning that he has only a couple of seconds to move before large spikes burst through Gilgamesh's back. Jumping high into the air and maintaining air time via taunts and Gerbera can be used to wait out the thorns until they disappear again, at which point Nero can resume wailing on the weak point.
  • Flying Saucer: A bladed disc is summoned that will follow Nero around and injure him any time it gets close enough. This happens about midway through the fight and can be destroyed with fully charged shots from Blue Rose. On SoS and higher, two discs will be summoned at a time.
