Devil May Cry Wiki

Awakening is the nineteenth mission in Devil May Cry 5 and the eighteenth "proper" mission.

June 15th 03:06pm[]

Urizen ate the fruit of the Qliphoth and gained power beyond reckoning, but Dante's new strength proved greater still. The furious battle reached its climax, with Dante finally bringing down the demon king to his knees. As the life ebbed from Urizen, V approached Urizen and merged with the fallen king. Where once stood a man and demon... Vergil was restored.

Go forward and encounter V's familiars and learn of their history. Battle Griffon and he will flee after he receives enough damage. Jump to the ledge to the right to destroy a Blood Clot then go down to where the Red Orbs are. Go behind the blood elevator and stand on the blood puddle for a few seconds to obtain a Red Orb Cache. In the next area, battle Shadow and he will flee as well after he receives enough damage. Jump up the two ledges. Defeat the three Red Empusas for the Blue Orb Fragment to appear; get it then continue to the right. Destroy the Blood Clot nearby. Enemies appear so defeat them as usual. Return to the ledges that Shadow ran to. Jump above the ledges to battle Griffon and Shadow simultaneously. They will flee again so follow them to another blood elevator. Behind the elevator, jump to grab a Gold Orb. Examine the Divinity Statue to customize Dante for the boss battle. If you're looking to get through the mission quickly you can skip all the inbetween enemy encounters, but make sure to destroy the Blood Clots as they help in the final battle.

Boss: Griffon[]

Griffons attacks focus on long range shots but will struggle if you put pressure on him by going in close. However he brings up counter moves that you'll need to avoid. Because Griffon is early in the mission it's recommended to use Royal Block or Ice Age against Griffon’s basic shots to build up style. Once you have full devil trigger go ham on Griffon and he'll be downed for some strong hits. Real Impact is recommend but only if you have a ignition once he's knocked down. After he leaves knock down he'll always use Round Robin. This is the time to Trickster away and use Round Trips and Kalina Ann moves. These will keep him at bay. Outside of that Double Check is sometimes used to keep you on your toes. Just keep mobile when it's out.

Boss: Shadow[]

Shadow being half the story of V's gameplay focuses on melee attacks and has clear patterns for you to follow. The main moves you want to use are DT Stinger, Shot Shell, Backslide, Welter Move, Thunder Clap, and most Cavaliere attacks. These moves will work wonders against Shadow as he mostly stays grounded. Shadow's wakeup attack is the only one where staying airborne is recommended

Your second fight with Shadow, Griffon will come in to keep you on your toes. Use your knowledge from both previous fights to combat the duo. However defeating Griffon is optional, to end the fight quickly keep your attention on Shadow with heavy damage.

Boss: Nightmare[]

During this fight, all three familiars will attack together in a team, but Nightmare is the main focus here, as killing it will also eliminate Griffon and Shadow. For long range, it fires its laser at Dante, requiring you to get out of the way. For short range, it spins around in a circle and closes the distance between you and it. It will also leap into the air similar to the way an Empusa Queen to get the drop on you. Remember to keep an eye on Shadow and Griffon, as ignoring them will allow them to get the jump on you and leaves you wide open to be finished off. Nightmare will disappear for short periods of time, in which Griffon and Shadow become the main focus of the battle. When Nightmare returns, it’ll fall down like a meteor and deal damage to you if you’re too close. Nightmare is rather slow, giving you opportunities for combos. When it disappears the second time, it will begin to attack from the ground, so keep an eye out so you’re not caught off guard.
