Devil May Cry HD Collection

Devil May Cry HD Collection is a compilation of Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2, and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (Special Edition). It was officially announced by Capcom in October, 2011.[1] Its North American and European release date was originally set as April 3, 2012,[2] but for whatever reason the Street Date was scrapped, and it was released on March 28, 2012.

Features

The differences between the games bundled in the HD Collection and the originals are the addition of achievements and trophies for Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively. It also features the first three games in High-Definition graphics and additional, never-before-seen concept artwork.[3]

There is also a jukebox-type feature that allows one to listen to select tracks from all three games.  Another difference is that the difficulty of the first DMC is slightly diminished: enemies drop more green orbs and bosses have less health.

Graphics

Overall, the graphics system is not noticeably changed, therefore, no additional lighting effects, and no usage of the MT Framework used in Devil May Cry 4. But, several revamps are made to re-create the old graphics into new systems:

  • The screen is now set in default to widescreen and 32-bit resolutions (1024x768 and above), stretching the graphics area for a higher-resoultion effect. This unfortunately only applies to the in-game graphics, as when using menus the screen still defaults to a 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • The character models have a new skinning effect to eliminate the blurred image results (see the comparison chart below), such as that - Phantom in the old version has blurred out legs, and dark color, but in the HD version, details are added to his legs and has re-coloring on his six eyes.
