Devil May Cry Wiki

DmC: The Eye of Dante is an augmented-reality mobile application for the Apple iPhone[1] and Android[2] operating systems. The app had tie-in features with the now defunct The Order viral website, and was used as part of an alternate-reality-game marketing campaign for DmC: Devil May Cry.

Description[]

DmC EoD WhatYouSee

real-world objects as they're seen in Limbo

It requires a Facebook or Twitter account to use. In a sense, it takes things you see from everyday life; stop signs, security cameras, etc., and shows you how they look in Limbo. The app also allowed you to solve mission challenges for The Order via The Order's viral website by scanning specific imagery, where completing missions could unlock DmC-themed videos, wallpapers, ringtones, and artwork, as well as points that could be redeemed for Red Orbs in the main game.[3]

As of right now the application has been delisted and is no longer available.

Gameplay[]

Completing missions via The Order's viral website can earn the player style points to unlock various in-app rewards, as well as Red Orbs for DmC: Devil May Cry.[4] Additionally, sharing mission completions via Facebook or Twitter could earn the player extra points.[5] The gameplay loop was as follows:

The-Eye-Of-Dante-App-Gameplay-Loop
  • STEP 1
Login with either Facebook or Twitter to create your Eye of Dante profile.
  • STEP 2
Visit ‘Mission Control’ on TheOrderBlog.net to check for your latest assignments and get hints on the triggers.
  • STEP 3
Use The Eye of Dante to locate the specific trigger in your environment. Triggers may include anything from text blocks or images, to public signage and logos.
  • STEP 4
The Eye of Dante will expose the demonic propaganda by revealing the truth and unearthing subliminal messages.
  • STEP 5
Discover your achievements, collect style points and increase your ranking on the leaderboard.
  • STEP 6
Share your achievements on Facebook or Twitter.

Scannable mission-triggers were all visuals related to riddles relevant to DmC. Scanning a trigger would earn the player points and rewards.

Example: [Mission 19]
"Hint. Who are our true makers?"
Solution - Capcom

Scanning a picture of Capcom's logo would satisfy the mission's requirements and count towards a mission completion.[6]

Red Orbs earned from completing these missions could be redeemed in DmC: Devil May Cry via a one-time-transfer to the game using a generated prize code.[7] Prize codes can be redeemed via the "Enter Prize Code" option found in the Extras menu of the PS3/Xbox 360 versions of DmC.
