The Grim Grip is an object that appears in Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5.
Grim Grips are shining bulb-like objects filled with blue light. They may be used as a magical grapple when the Devil Bringer acquires the Evil Legacy. They appear on most areas in Devil May Cry 4, helping Nero to travel and reach higher areas. Although most of them appear near a Continuum Pad, there are some wild Grim Grips scattered on an area even without these pads.

Grim Grips are like floating bulbs shining with strong blue light, when at close, they appear like floating tops. They are roughly the size of a ball, and they were originally untouchable through human hands, but they can be grappled by those with demonic hands like Nero.

Some of these Grim Grips take different forms when filled with an alternate energy. Such examples are the "Grim Bats"; bat-shaped objects summoned by Sanctus to serve as protection, or attacking a target at will. These "Grim Bats" may be able to retain their Grim Grip shape temporarily by shooting at them, making them immoble for a short amount of time.

Gameplay

Devil May Cry 4

Once Nero obtains the Evil Legacy, he can use his "Hell Bound" technique to grapple onto a Grim Grip, allowing him to travel across gorges or elevated areas without falling.[1] Some Grim Grips can only be revealed by standing on a Continuum Pad; however, not all Grim Grips require a Continuum Pad to be utilized. Despite the fact that Dante traverses the same areas as Nero, Dante does not encounter any Grim Grips.

Sanctus, in both his normal and Diabolica forms, can summon flying miniature demons that Nero can stun and use similar to Grim Grips.

A Continuum Pad

A Continuum Pad is a platform, often set near a cliff or ledge, which is used to reach invisible Grim Grips or distant Grim Grips that would be impossible to reach using Hell Bound alone.[1] In these cases, if there is no Continuum Pad on the other side of the path, the Continuum Pad and Grim Grip effectively act as a one-way gate.
