While he is connected to the Hell Gate, he is immortal. But if we get him away from the Hell Gate, our swords will do the rest.
Hell Gate (DmC)

Mundus harnesses the power of The Hell Gate

The Hell Gate is a conduit in DmC: Devil May Cry that maintains Limbo's parallel existance to the Human realm, allowing the demons to manipulate human society from the shadows completely undetected. In DmC, Mundus, the demon king, uses the Hell Gate to maintain his immortality, which he does by drawing power from it while seated in his office.

The Hell Gate itself can be found in Mundus' office at the top of Silver Sacks Tower in Limbo City.

DmC: Devil May Cry[]

Removing Mundus from the Hell Gate is one of Vergil's primary goals during the events of DmC: Devil May Cry. With the Hell Gate's power, Mundus is invincible: not even a Nephilim can slay him while he's near it. After recruiting Dante, his Nephilim brother, Vergil devises a plan to try to coax Mundus away from the Hell Gate in order for the two of them to kill him: Dante must destroy Mundus' surveillance network, his propoganda machine, the source of the "lobotomy in a can" he uses to control the humans of Limbo City, and much later, his unborn child. With all of this completed, Vergil then convinces Dante to act as bait to lure Mundus out of his office, where Vergil finally steps in unobstructed to use the Yamato to shut down the Hell Gate, removing the demon king's invincibility, and revealing the truth about Limbo and the demon world to the humans, "freeing" them from the demons' control.
