Karnival m1c

Dante stands on the wing of Karnival.

Karnival (カーニバル号, Kānibaru-gō?) is a biplane in Devil May Cry. It resembles an extremely battered red Mitsubishi F1M, a floatplane used by the Imperial Japanese Navy between the 1930s and 40s as a reconnaissance and spotting plane.

Story[]

The aircraft is first encountered in Mission 1 of Devil May Cry. It is located in a workshop area within the castle on Mallet Island, surrounded by a number of Marionettes suspended from the ceiling. It remains there until the very end of the game when, after Mundus traps Dante and Trish in a collapsing room in the castle's waterway, Karnival breaks through the ceiling and provides the pair a means of escape.

It is never directly named in-game, but "Karnival" is written on the left-hand side of the fuselage level with the rear seat, and Hideki Kamiya confirmed this is the aircraft's name in his comments on game's website.[1]

Other appearances[]

Viewtiful Joe[]

Karnival 1

In Dante's missions in the PS2 version of Viewtiful Joe the plane replaces Joe's spacecraft Six Machine in cutscenes and gameplay. It first appears after the player defeats the boss character Hulk Davison when Dante takes to the sky in search of the Jadow base. The game then becomes a side-scrolling shooter in which the plane can fire bullets, perform spins or cartwheels, and utilize Dante's VFX powers to defeat attacking Jadow.

It later appears in Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, where Dante lends it to Captain Blue in one scene.
