Rain Storm is one of the moves executed exclusively with Ebony & Ivory by Dante and with Darts by Lucia and has appeared in every game since Devil May Cry 2. The technique is characterized by Dante flipping upside down midair and firing on enemies below him.

History[]

Devil May Cry 2[]

Dante possesses the Rain Storm ability at the start of the game. Shooting immediately (or buffering the shot) after an Air Hike, Wall Hike or Kick Jump while Dante is upside down will make him keep that stance and shoot downwards.

Lucia can execute Rain Storm with Darts only. It requires shooting while Lucia is upside down after an Air Hike – she will throw 6 darts downwards (2 straight, 4 at a narrow angle) at once while moving herself backwards.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening[]

Rain Storm has been revamped and is only available in the Gunslinger Style. At any point while in the air, Dante will flip himself upside-down and spin while firing below him. The Style button must be pressed repeatedly to extend the attack until it reaches the ground.

Outside of gameplay, Dante is also seen using the attack in the opening cutscene of Mission 8, “A renewed fear”.

Devil May Cry 4[]

Rain Storm functions largely the same as it did in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, the main difference being that instead of having to press the style button repeatedly, it only needs to be held to extend the attack.

Devil May Cry 5[]

Due to the physics being changed in Devil May Cry 5, Rainstorm has slight differences. The player is able to move Dante during the move without the need to trigger the inertia by jump canceling. In the beginning of the animation, Dante shoots outwards, then brings his guns together to shoot directly below him. Rain Storm's animation stops at just about Dante's standing height. Unfortunately, the longer start-up and earlier end to the animation makes it less useful when closer to the ground than in previous iterations. Just like in Devil May Cry 4, the Style button only needs to be held to extend the move.

DmC: Devil May Cry[]

Rain Storm is Ebony & Ivory's gun special. It functions almost the same as in Devil May Cry 4, but it has a wider spread in the beginning and a much slower decent. Inverse Rain Storm allows Dante to jump into the air while spinning and shooting all around him. Inverse Rain Storm is integral to the technique Spiral Cancel, where a player cancels it with a midair dodge to perform air combos and attacks close to the ground.

Other Appearances[]

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds[]

In Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Rain Storm makes an appearance as one of Dante's aerial attacks.

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale[]

Dante is capable of using Rainstorm and a few variations of the technique. In this game, Rainstorm is a ground to air move, and functions the same as DmC's Inverse Rainstorm. While in the air, Inverse Rainstorm functions the same as it normally would, only it starts in the air. The air technique called Aerial Descending Rainstorm functions the way Rainstorm truly would, with Dante firing while spiraling towards the ground.
