Nero with a Red Orb Crystal on Mission 7

Reb Orb Crystals are large chunks of crystallized Red Orbs. Each crystal contains a maximum of 5000 Red Orbs. These are found in most parts of Devil May Cry 4.

Gameplay

When you hit a Red Orb Crystal, Red Orbs will start appearing from its top. The more damage you deal to the crystal, the larger the quantity of Red Orbs that will spawn. But you have to deal a high amount of damage and do it fast, for it will vanish in a short period of time when hit.

Locations

  • Mission 2 - On the Residential District, in some market area.
  • Mission 3 - On the T-shaped area at the start of the mission, it is covered by a wooden board on the left.
  • Mission 7 - At the starting area - found near a statue.
  • Mission 10 - On the edge of the Experiment Disposal area.
  • Mission 12 - Same location as Mission 10.
  • Mission 14 - Same location as Mission 7.
  • Mission 15 - You can easily see this crystal on the top of the spiral staircase near the area where you find the Anima Mercury (the door is locked on Mission 3).
  • Mission 16 - Same location as Mission 3.
  • Mission 17 - Same location as Mission 2.

The tricks

  • Some recommend going to Mission 3, killing the 3 Scarecrows first to increase your D.T. Gauge and then destroying the crystal. Then go to Systems - Retry Mission and destroy it all over again until you have plenty of Red Orbs
  • In Heaven or Hell Mode, you deal high damage. You may repeat destroying the crystal on Mission 3 with this difficulty mode. In this trick, you may earn 5000 Red Orbs per Crystal.
  • Remember to be in Devil Trigger state to deal higher damage.
  • Try charging your Exceed to level 3 as Nero while hitting the Red Orbs
  • Note that some firearm and range attacks do not damage the crystal.

Other Games

Objects similar to Red Orb Crystals appear in every Devil May Cry game, though their form and method of dispensing orbs varies slightly.

Devil May Cry

In Devil May Cry, they are called Red Orb Fountains and bear little resemblance to the later Crystals, being gold statues rather than red pillars. Like Crystals, though, they produce Red Orbs when struck, and will continue to do so until a certain amount of time has passed, after which they will be destroyed. Each fountain can reward upwards of 500 Orbs.

Devil May Cry 2

In Devil May Cry 2, floating rocks resembling two-faced heads will reward the player with Red Orbs when struck, but only when glowing red. After the generators are depleated, they will continue to float and remain intact but will not reward any more Orbs.

Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 3 sees the introduction of the more "organic" Red Orb crystals. These crystals resemble giant red quartz clusters that pulsate with energy. They continue to reward the player with Red Orbs when attacked and will be destroyed when their reserves are depleted. Like the Crystals from Devil May Cry 4, the orbs rewarded from these start out small and grow in size as the crystal nears its destruction point.

Trivia

  • Normally, small Red Orbs come after the first hit, then gets larger as the Crystal is nearing destruction. However, in Heaven or Hell difficulty, it is reversed, with the first set of Red Orbs to be very large, then decreasing in size as the Crystal is nearing its destruction.
