Devil May Cry Wiki

Now we all go down the rabbit hole… together.
—The White Rabbit

White Rabbit, or simply the Rabbit, is the main antagonist of the first season of Netflix's Devil May Cry. Formerly a human turned Artificial Demon, he led a group of Demons in a plot to destroy the barrier separating the Human World and Makai with the end-goal of enacting revenge against Darkcom and to save the low-level Demons from oppression on both sides. He was also responsible of revealing Vergil's status to be alive to Dante.

Appearance[]

White Rabbit is a tall and slim, bunny-looking type of a artificial demon wearing a black suit, with a white cravat and ruffles around his hands, as well as a golden monocle on his left eye. He has two visible scars, stitched with seams on his head, framing his face. His eyes shine with a bright yellowish-orange color. Underneath the rabbit mask, he is a human with long dark hair and several scars across his body, and an artificial heart implanted in the left side of his chest that pumps demon blood into his body. After devouring Blood-Strike and assimilating even more demon blood, he assumed a monstrous form, becoming much larger and more muscular, with red skin and the upper part of his body covered in black fur with spikes. His only human part is his face, and his left arm fused with Force Edge.

Personality[]

When he was human, the White Rabbit was a kind and optimistic person, with faith and hope that low-level demons could have a new life on Earth, believing that he could save their lives from the precarious conditions of Makai. When his dream was frustrated by Darkcom soldiers massacring all his friends and family, leaving him as the only survivor, his life was completely robbed when he ended up going mad, adopting sadistic and brutal methods in order to take revenge on Darkcom and its agents, not measuring scruples in applying experiments on the people he once swore to protect in order to achieve a greater good now distorted by his trauma and desire for revenge. He sees Dante and Lady as his equals, both are abandoned and aimless orphans who seek to punish the world for the trauma that happened in their past, with him being the darkest reflection of this trio.

Despite his justifications, Rabbit is a hypocrite and is just as bad as the humans he claims to despise. Not only he is just as ruthless as them but constantly excuses his atrocities as "something that had to be done". Rabbit was experimenting on the lesser demons and forcing them to work with him even though they just want to live peacefully in the human world. Rabbit doesn't even see how illogical his plan is as he is literally damning both the humans and lesser demons to suffer by breaking the barrier, which would lead the powerful and evil demons to cross over. He also doesn't care if humans are suffering and end up dying from his attempts to open the hell gate. As revealed by Mary, he is mainly upset with DARKCOM for killing his foster family and with it being the centerpiece of his revenge scheme. All in all, Rabbit is so hyper fixated on his quest for revenge on DARKCOM that he is willing to destroy humanity and even members of demonkind as payback for his suffering.

Biography[]

White Rabbit was originally a young human boy with a strong love for Lewis Caroll's Alice in Wonderland, carrying the book around everywhere. An orphan, he was left with a cruel, selfish and unkind foster family as a child, but he was constantly bullied by his foster siblings and abused by his foster parents. Despite his pleas to the social worker, the worker ignored his situation and left him in those circumstances. Eventually, a portal to Makai happened to open near the boy and he, likening the situation to Alice in the novel, walked through it. After finding himself in Makai, he quickly realized that air was hard to breathe and he was chased by a giant demon, being saved by a friendly Makaian. the Makaian took the boy back to his refugee camp and the boy quickly became friends with his family. One day, while playing, the boy noticed a glowing light and found a gem. Soon after that one of his friends, a younger one succumbed to the toxic air of Makai and died. At their funeral, the boy sacrificed his book to her. Desperate to not allow such a thing to happen again, the boy began using his gem to create a device that allowed him to open portals to and from the human world.

The boy, now grew up to be a young man, would go on to use these portals to allow Makaians to flee Makai and live peacefully in the human world. However, after one of these expeditions where they were fleeing a massive demon, they arrived only to see several makaians slaughtered by Darkcom forces, led by Lady. The man attempted to explain the situation, but the demon they were fleeing came through the portal and began attacking, causing Darkcom to slaughter all the makaians present, including those who were simply trying to flee. Alive, but physically and mentally scarred, the man went insane. He investigated Darkcom, vowing to destroy the agency. He also created an artificial heart to pump demon blood through his body, greatly enhanced his physical capabilities. Finally, he created a rabbit-themed mask, in which he proceeded to sow to his head.

White Rabbit would go on to lure numerous other Makaians to earth. The strong would join his army while the weak were used for experiments. While families were generally left alone, they were only allowed to live in a building that he controlled. At some point, he was approached by Nelo Angelo, who gave him half of the perfect amulet and informed him of Dante's status as a son of Sparda. Together, the two concocted a plan to open the gate between Earth and Makai.

During the events of the series[]

The white rabbit escaped from Makai to begin his plan, stealing Sparda's sword from the museum in Vatican. Steals Force Edge, a sword once owned by the legendary demon Sparda, who turned against his own kind and created a magical barrier between Hell and Earth. The Rabbit massacres the men he hired before blowing up the building, and announces his plan to destroy the barrier between realms and usher in the apocalypse

In his verge of death, the White Rabbit tells Dante that he will be welcomed by nobody.
